Password Protect a Website or Directory in Plesk

You may want to keep your website or part of your website invisible to public viewing. One option is to password protect the website file directory.

Steps to Password Protect a Website Directory

From your Valice Account (my.valice.com), connect to your Plesk Control Panel

  1. In the “Websites & Domains” tab, click on the subscription domain name.
  2. Click “Password-Protected Directories.”
  3. Click on “Add Protected Directory” and choose a directory to password protect. If you want to password protect the entire website, select the root (“/”) folder, assign a name to that directory and click “OK.”

Now you need to create a username and password so that you can access this protected directory.

  1. Click on the directory name, and choose “Add New User. “
  2. Create a Username and Password and click “Save”

To test, navigate to the website or directory that you protected and you should be prompted for a Username and Password. Enter the Username and Password you created and you should be granted access.

Steps to Remove Password Protection on a Directory

  1. In the “Websites & Domains” tab, click on the subscription domain name.
  2. Click “Password-Protected Directories.”
  3. Select the password protected directory you want to remove protection from and click “Remove Protection.”

To test, navigate to the website or directory that was protected and you should NOT be prompted for a Username and Password.
